Daisy started windsurfing at the age of 9 years old through her local T15 Windsurfing Club at Carsington Water, T15 is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) initiative to encourage more young children into the sport of windsurfing, it teaches children foremost how to windsurf and leads them into racing. Daisy started racing by competing at local clubs with her friends from Carsington, this lead to her being selected to the North Zone squad and receiving more focused racing coaching by the RYA`s professional team, after one year in the North Zone and a successful performane at the Youth and Masters Windsurfing Championships in Weymouth Daisy was selected to the National Junior Squad. It was at this time when Daisy was 12 years old that she moved into the new Class of the Bic Techno. Having been an inland sailor on resevoirs Daisy had a big learning curve ahead of her as most National and International events are held on the sea, Daisy`s first BIG experience of sailing on the sea was when the she was selected to competed in the Med Cup in Marseilles, the swell was so big it was making the sailors sea sick!! Daisy competed on the Bic Techno for 18 months before moving at 14 years old in to the new Youth class known as the RS:X. The RS:X is the new Olympic Class kit for windsurfing, in the Olympics they have a Ladies and Mens fleet.The Ladies class is competing on the 8.5m sail with no change down despite the conditions. Fitness is a key element in performing at this level, Daisy maintains her fitness by training in the gym, running, cycling and spending as much time on the water as possible. |
